If we spare our lives in this life, in which life will we be able to become Buddhas? In which life can we save our parents and masters? Thus I decided to speak up with the true teaching.

As part of the essay expressing devotion to and appreciation for the life of his master, Dozen-bo, Nichiren reminds us of how precious our own lives are and the importance of our propagation of the Wonderful Dharma of the Lotus Sutra. We will certainly face difficulties, and even rejection by those whom we want to help. But we are Bodhisattvas who chose this life to benefit all beings. Let us remind each other of this as we persevere.
